Walk-in-interview for the Positions of JRF/SRF/RA (as per DST, Govt. of India norms) in the Academy


The National Academy of Sciences, India was founded in the year 1930, with the objectives to provide a national forum for the publication of research work carried out by Indian scientists and to provide opportunities for exchange of views among them. The Memorandum of Association was signed by seven distinguished and patriotic scientists namely Prof. Meghnad Saha, Prof. K.N. Bahl, Prof. D.R. Bhattacharya, Prof. P.C. MacMohan, Prof. A.C. Banerji, Prof. Ch. Wali Mohammad and Prof. N.R. Dhar. Of these, the Academy had the good fortune of having the continued association of Prof. N.R. Dhar until very lately when he expired on December 5, 1986 at the age of 96 years. Apart from being one of the founders of the Academy and taking continued interest in its welfare, Prof. Dhar also had donated the piece of land on which the Academy building stands today.

The Rules and Regulations of the Academy were based on those of the Royal Society of England and Asiatic Society of Bengal. These have since been revised and updated to meet the emerging challenges. Prof. Meghnad Saha was elected its first President.

The Academy started with 57 ordinary Members and 19 Fellows. Today it has 1600 Members and 1618 Fellows from all parts of the country; including 29 Honorary Fellows and 93 Foreign Fellows from various disciplines of Science and Technology.
Applications are invited from young woman scientists/researchers to work on any area of their expertise, relevant to welfare of woman in general & rural women in particular, the candidate should also have the expertise to conduct research, training, prepare teaching/training material & audio-visual aids, etc.

The positions will be equivalent to that of JRF/SRF/RA as per decision of the selection committee.

International Conferences on Drugs for the Future: Infectious Diseases March 27 - 28, 2014 in NIPER


From a modest beginning in 2007, National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Hyderabad has now grown into a fully integrated global pharmaceutical education and research institute. The guiding philosophy of the institute, throughout, has been creation of knowledge, influencing Pharmaceutical fields that integrates globally. The objectives of imparting education, combined with creation, dissemination and application of knowledge, are being met in an integrated form, to create a synergetic impact. Widespread resistance to the existing armoury of antimicrobials is no longer a threat but a reality. Unfortunately, not many new drugs are expected to reach the market in the near future; therefore, immediate attention is needed to avert the looming healthcare disaster. The drug discovery efforts in this direction are currently facing immense scientific and business challenges. This conference is aimed at discussing the recent developments in the fields of infectious diseases with particular attention to TB, malaria, dengue, AIDS and other bacterial infections. The theme of this conference will be on meeting the challenges and future perspectives for the discovery of antimicrobial agents. The conference will have keynote addresses and invited talks by renowned scientists working in the area of Infectious diseases.
